Lhokseumawe&nbsp;memiliki&nbsp;luas wilayah 181 km persegi dengan&nbsp;jumlah penduduk lebih dari&nbsp;203.000 jiwa. Kota&nbsp; ini&nbsp;awalnya merupakan ibukota dari Kabupaten Aceh Utara. Namun sejak dikeluarkannya&nbsp;Undang-Undang Nomor 2 tahun 2001&nbsp;tentang&nbsp;Pembentukan Kota Lhokseumawe,&nbsp;Lhokseumawe resmi menjadi kota administrasi sendiri yang terpisah dari Kabupaten Aceh Utara.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Baca Juga: <a href=\"https:\/\/aceh.pikiran-rakyat.com\/olah-raga\/pr-2987013044\/indonesia-unggul-sementara-lawan-malaysia-malam-ini\">Indonesia Unggul Sementara Lawan Malaysia Malam Ini<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <!--iframe2--> <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dahulu juga Dikenal sebagai kota penghasil gas di Provinsi Aceh,&nbsp;pertambangan gas di Lhokseumawe bermula saat Pertamina menggandeng Mobil Oil untuk melakukan observasi sumber minyak pada tahun 1968.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kontrak bagi hasil tersebut berhasil menemukan ladang gas alam di Arun, tepatnya pada tanggal 24 Oktober 1971.&nbsp;Ladang gas Arun menyimpan cadangan gas yang sangat besar, yang saat itu diestimasi sebagai cadangan gas alam terbesar di dunia. Tidak main-main, ladang gas Arun ditaksir menyimpan cadangan gas mencapai 17,1 triliun kaki kubik.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penemuan ladang gas Arun mendapat perhatian besar dari pemerintah sehingga Presiden Soeharto kemudian meresmikan PT Arun Natural Gas Liquefaction Co. pada tanggal 19 September 1978. Kinerja ekspor dari PT Arun sangat tinggi dan berhasil merajai ekspor gas alam terbesar di dunia pada periode 90-an.&nbsp;Dari banyaknya cadangan gas dan aktivitas kinerja ekspor tersebut, akhirnya Lhokseumawe mendapat julukan sebagai kota Petro Dollar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aktivitas PT Arun Natural Gas Liquefaction Co. dengan cadangan gas alamnya tidak hanya menghasilkan devisa melalui ekspor, tetapi juga menstimulus aktivitas industri lainnya yang bergantung pada gas untuk aktivitas produksinya. Beberapa perusahaan tersebut antara lain&nbsp;&nbsp;PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda, PT Asean Aceh Fertilizer, dan PT Kertas Kraf Aceh. Aktivitas industri tersebut telah menyerap tenaga kerja sekaligus meningkatkan daya beli masyarakat di Lhokseumawe dan sekitarnya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selain kekayaan gas alamnya, Lhokseumawe juga unggul secara komparatif karena dilintasi oleh Garis Komunikasi Laut (<em>Sea Lines of<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Communication<\/em>).
